7/04/2016 – This is one of my latest projects made in about an hour. After I purchased a DV4mini data transceiver and tested it in DMR and C4FM I decided that it was time to put all together in a small package that I could use as a portable digital gateway. I currently use an AllStarLink node 43288 that I have installed permanently on my truck. So why not add a digital gateway to talk to my friends utilizing the digital modes.
I started the project purchasing a 3.5″ TFT that came with a very cheap acrylic case. After that case broke I decided to re-use a raspberry case that I had, and I modified it to fit an 3.5″ tft display. Then I realized that having the DV4mini dongle hanging outside the case connected through the USB wasn’t an option and I hardwired the dongle to the Raspberry Pi usb ports. After this I assembled it and tested with some friends getting nice reports. Below is more information.
